Changes..

Well, I thought I should update for those of you wondering why I haven’t posted in what seems like 87 years.

I’m taking some time off from the photography business to focus on my first loves, vet medicine and marine biology. I’ll be continuing work at Scarborough Animal Hospital (the best vet around, of course.. you should probably bring Sparky on over), studying for my tech license, and I’ll also be an intern at the Marine Animal Rehabilitation Center at UNE starting next month. So, life will be a little crazy.. in a good way!

I will be shooting 3 weddings next summer but I’m unsure about where the business will be going from there. Luckily, I have a whole bunch of amazing photographer friends to refer you to! Just to name a few:

Thank you all for the kind words and support over the last couple of years. I will try to post some pictures of my adventures with the sea turtles and seals at UNE, but if not, I’ll post again in the summer when I have some wedding photos to share! Happy Holidays :)

A few photos of past adventures. I admit it, I’m a huge nerd.

The List

I think I’ve had the winter blues… I’ve been in a funk for the last few days for no good reason. Maybe it’s because this has been the longest winter in the history of time, or I’m tired, or I’m sending all of my money to the UMaine student loans office. But I decided tonight that I am going to give my funk the boot.

I made a list of what I have and what I love… A really random, rambling, hilarious list… but a good list nevertheless. It made me happy. It reminded me that I have a thousand things to be thankful for. The best part of it is, with the exception of “airplanes that take me places” and “my camera”, all of the things on my list are pretty close to free. (Which is good, considering all of that money going to student loans.) I have to say, of all the fancy things in the world, my favorite thing in life is just being with my husband with candles burning and Tom Petty playing in the background. And maybe a pineapple smoothie. Ahh, that’s the good stuff.

What’s on your list? You should write one. Even if it includes lemonade, rain on the roof, and dancing in your kitchen.

Shower The Bride!

One of my favorite people in the universe is getting married! Meet Lauren. She is beautiful, always laughing, and everyone loves her hugs. Gotta love this girl.

She is marrying her fiance, Charlie, in July in the backyard of her mom’s big beautiful house in Pittsfield. I love outdoor weddings and I am so excited to see what she puts together. She’s quite crafty.

That’s It. I’m Moving To Fiji.

That’s it. I’m moving to Fiji. This was the declaration I made every winter since high school as I trudged through the snow and a wind chill of -17 degrees. Sure, I could just buy a space heater, but flying halfway across the planet seemed much more logical.

I never ended up moving there of course, but I did get to cross it off my lengthy bucket list last June with my husband, Keith, for our honeymoon! Today, with snowbanks piled high outside my windows I couldn’t help but reflect back on that glorious vacation.

Take The Reins

Each month I find something awesome in my Self magazine. I know, I’m a nerd, but I wanted to share these thoughts.

Take the reins. “Think about what makes you happiest-the one thing guaranteed to get your heart racing and a big grin spreading across your face. Got it? Good. Now do that thing. Yes, today. Taking control of your life is about knowing what you want and going after it without hesitation. You don’t need permission. You just need to know you deserve to be happy.” Continue reading

How To See

How do you see?

My camera has taught me to see things a little differently… in a good way.

All of the time I’ve spent looking through the lens searching for beautiful things to capture has molded my perspective.  I think it’s just that I notice things. Things that happen every day in every place. I notice how light falls on faces, how it paints a landscape…
I notice people in love walking down the street and a momma-to-be looking down at her growing belly…

I notice beauty because I’m looking for it. All the time. Continue reading

Take Me To The Sea

“I started early, took my dog, and visited the sea…”

Well, it was sometime in the evening and I don’t yet own a dog, but I did visit the sea… on a 54 degree day in Ocean Park (which, by my calculations is practically 63, which is practically 72…). We’re talking tropical temperatures here.

I started out for a run and halfway through realized to my horror that the sun was setting and the sky was beautiful and orange and I did not have my camera with me. Naturally, I turned around, ran back to my house to get my sacred camera (which in time I hope to have surgically attached to me in some fashion) and drove to the beach.
